Tomingas beats the wind and gives Estonia 2nd gold

Tuuli Tomingas, 2nd Estonia's gold
Tuuli Tomingas, 2nd Estonia's gold

She has just turned 19 and in her 2nd major tournament Tuuli Tomingas of Estonia beats strong winds and super fast Russians to take her first gold medal in Junior’s women’s sprint in European Championships at Nove Mesto.

Amazing shooting by Tuuli with only 1 error in a difficult day for all girls in the range. She was slower by 43″ to her main rival today Svetlana Mironova of Russia who was the fastest on track but with 1 error more in shooting has lost to Tomingas by 16.2″. Another amazing fact: Tomingas stand perfectly in last lap and especially in the last 1000m was as fast as the Russians!

3rd has finished Uliana Kaisheva with 3 shooting errors, the 3rd best ski time and almost 7″ behind Mironova. Top 6 has been completed by Coline Varcin of France (4th, 2 errors), Evgeniya Pavlova of Russia (2nd after shooting 2 but collapsed in last lap and lost a medal- she had 2 errors ), Anastasia Evsyunina of Russia (6th with 2 errors).

Amazing performance by Russian team since all 5 ladies have finished within top 12 with 4 of them in top 6! A new strong generation is coming after the Olympics?
